AN UPDATE has been issued on two unauthorised encampments located on Council-owned land in Ellesmere Port.

As reported by the Standard, a Traveller group set up camp within the car park of Asda on Wellington Road, on April 4.

The encampment, which consisted of five caravans, was then assessed by a member of the Cheshire and Warrington Traveller Team.

Various checks are made including welfare, cleanliness, disruption to local businesses and obstruction of highways.

If an unauthorised encampment is on Council land, the Council may only evict them subject to complying with Human Rights legislation and other procedures.

Following the assessment on Monday (April 8), the group have been issued with a section 77 notice under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994.

The notice will require the group to leave by an agreed date, failure to do so will likely result in a possession order (section 78).

A group at a second encampment, located on Kalewood Road, were issued with a section 77 notice on Wednesday, April 3.

That group is now understood to have left the location.
