Jan van Deventer says his resurgent Chester side are 'full of confidence' heading into this weekend's home clash with Leicester Lions.

The Hare Lane club atoned for a mauling at Sedgley Park in style last weekend as they routed Sheffield Tigers in a 59-7 home success.

That result, a fourth win in five games and the club's biggest winning margin this term, lifted Deventer's side to within touching distance of the top six and has instilled renewed belief among the Chester squad.

Deventer said: "It wasn't just the size of the victory against Sheffield , which was most pleasing it was our all-round performance all over the pitch.

"We looked hungry for the full 80 minutes and we kept attacking without easing off at all.

"Getting that reaction from the players after we lost so heavily at Sedgley was great too, we really needed to see quick improvements.

"It's a result that has left us full of confidence heading into the Sheffield game, which we know will be another test for us."

Chester were well beaten in the reverse fixture last November where the Lions inflicted a 35-14 defeat on the visitors.

And while Deventer is confident his in-form side can exact revenge tomorrow, he remains wary of the visitors collective strengths.

"They're a very physical side with some enterprising backs who really make things happen for them.

"They've got some impressive finishing power on the wings too, which did a lot of damage to us last time at there place.

"But we're certainly capable of getting at them too after getting nine tries last weekend.

"Our home record has been very good this season and everyone's raring to go again on Saturday."

Fresh from running in a hat-trick of tries against Sheffield, number 8 Guy Ford will once again skipper Chester who enter the game with a full-strength squad.
