CONNAH'S QUAY NOMADS blew the Welsh Premier Development League title race wide open by beating leaders Cefn Druids 5-3.

Nomads led 3-1 at the break through goals from Nathan Woolfe, Max Moore and Tom Weir, who completed his brace in the second period to go with a Jack Robinson strike.

"I've said all along this season that we are a good side and a progressive side," said coach Iain Bennett. "Obviously it helps having the likes of Jon Rushton, Jonny Spittle and Nathan Woolfe come down for minutes. I appreciate they are a benefit to us.

"But you look around the team and we've got young lads in every area. We've got a first year playing centre forward, a first year playing left wing, a first year playing right-back and we've introduced two first years in the second-half to the centre of midfield.

"We are playing some good football, we are switched on and we are sharp. There are still little things to work on, but that's the age of the players."

Bennett also reserved praise for Shaun Colley's Druids, who are a point clear of out of action Airbus and now just three ahead of Nomads.

"Credit to Cefn Druids," he continued. "They are top of the league and they are there for a reason.

"Every time we asked them a question they answered it. Shaun's got them well-drilled.

"It was a good challenge for us and it was a good challenge for us with the best team winning on the day."

Finding the net for Druids were Lewis George, Isaac Dawson and Evan Woodall, with coach Colley refusing to be too downhearted about the defeat.

He tweeted: "Can't be despondent. Our six first years will have learnt plenty competing against some first team opposition.

"No doubt this squad will react from it positively as always."
