League leaders Airbus recorded a 2-1 comeback victory at Ruthin Town to open up a 12-point lead at the summit with just 11 matches remaining.

Despite falling behind to an early Ryan Jones goal, Airbus hit back with two first half strikes to record their first win of 2019.

The home side had almost doubled their lead when a shot hit the angle of crossbar and far post, before Airbus midfielder Ryan Edwards saw his effort flagged offside.

The equaliser arrived on 34 minutes when Lewis Buckley netted from Curtis Strong’s lofted cross.

When Goldston dropped another Strong delivery, Asa Hamilton blasted over the bar with the goal at his mercy, but Edwards made no mistake from close range soon after when he converted from Buckley’s measured cross.

Buckley was unlucky to see a shot hit the post before the break and Matty McGinn shaved the bar with a 20-yard volley early in the second half.

A Ruthin effort was cleared off the line while, at the other end, Brady McGilloway hit the bar with Goldston just managing to regather the ball.

After the Wingmakers took a step nearer to a Welsh Premier League return, assistant manager Andy Thomas said: “We responded really well to conceding so early and fully deserved to turn the game around.

“We’ve got 11 games left now and we’re determined to win every one of them.

“But on weekends like this, where the teams around you drop points, it makes three points even sweeter.”

Gerard Kinsella netted two second half goals on his Flint Town United debut as the Silkmen drew 2-2 at Porthmadog.

Dominant in the first half, Port went ahead through Shaun Cavanagh’s penalty after Ieuan Hewitt’s lunge had felled the striker.

Cavanagh underlined Port’s dominance 10 minutes later when he converted at close range from Rob Evans’ low cross.

A much improved second half showing saw Flint reduce arrears on 55 minutes when Kinsella headed home Brandon Burrows’ corner.

Sustained Flint pressure yielded a deserved equaliser on 76 minutes when Kinsella beat Port keeper Paul Pritchard with a low drive.

The result saw both sides lose further ground on pacesetters Airbus, with Flint dropping to fifth in the standings.

Manager Niall McGuinness said: “We struggled to get close to them in the first 30 minutes and tactically I felt I got it wrong before we changed our shape. We gifted them two cheap goals, which was the most frustrating part.

“Gerard’s made a really strong debut and got two good goals for us, which I felt we deserved based on a much better second half performance.”

Gresford Athletic boss Steve Halliwell criticised his side’s game management as they shipped an injury-time equaliser in their 2-2 draw with Guilsfield.

The Colliers looked on course to record their first ever victory over their bogey side, but Adam Jenkins’ 92nd minute strike salvaged a point for the visitors.

Jordan MacCarter had put Gresford ahead with a penalty after the Gresford forward was brought down at a corner.

Ex-Gresford striker Aaron Edwards restored parity early in the second half when he headed home against his former club.

The home side rallied and restored their lead on 63 minutes through Jack Chaloner’s well-placed strike.

But with victory in sight, Gresford launched a late attack which culminated in Tom Freeman’s shot being gathered by Guils keeper Mike Jones, who launched the ball upfield where Jenkins was on hand to poach a last-gasp leveller.

Halliwell said: “On the balance of play, it’s probably a fair result, but from the position we were in we really should have closed the game out.

“It was a scrappy game without many clear-cut chances, but we battled well to get back in front and should have been smart enough to take all three points.”

Holywell Town’s relegation fears grew as they were sunk by Oli Buckley’s third minute strike in a 1-0 defeat at Prestatyn Town.

Another spirited display from the Wellmen proved to be in vain, as the visitors failed to convert their chances in their 11th league defeat of the season.

With his side now rooted in the bottom three and five points adrift of safety, Holywell boss John Haseldin remains optimistic of an upturn in form.

He said: “I don’t want to come out with another hard-luck story but it was a game we definitely deserved more from.

“Performance-wise I can’t fault the lads or ask for more from them. The desire and commitment is there, and it’s only a matter of time before it clicks for us.”

Buckley Town shipped an 89th minute leveller as they drew 2-2 at Conwy Borough.

Dan Moore’s side led 2-1 after strikes from Lewis Hone and Shaun Tinsley, before Conor Harwood’s late equaliser.

Bangor City rose to second in the table after a 5-0 demolition of Denbigh Town, Rhyl won 1-0 at Penrhyncoch, while basement side Holyhead Hotspur were 1-0 victors at Llanrhaeadr.
