A GOAL in each half was enough to hand Tarvin Rex all three points in their local derby clash against Waverton Centurion in Pool A of the Memorial Trophy.

Luke Noble-Smith broke the deadlock after 30 minutes when he put the home side ahead before Will Furnedge doubled Tarvin’s lead shortly after the hour mark to make it 2-0.

Waverton were unable to get themselves back into it as Tarvin defended resolutely for the remaining minutes to keep their clean sheet.

Meanwhile, in Section A of the Chester and District Sunday Football League, Castrol Club came out on top in a five-goal thriller away to Axis United.

Tom Douglas marked his return from injury with a goal to put the visitors ahead before Dave Pearson equalised for Axis. Douglas then struck his second of the game to restore Castrol’s lead with the teams going into the break with home side 2-1 down.

Kris Jones extended Castrol’s lead after the restart, and while Brad Stanley pulled one back for Axis it proved to be too little too late as Castrol Club held on for the win.

Second placed Christleton Athletic maintained their one-point lead over Castrol in the league as they too secured a 3-2 victory away from home.

Charlie Jones, Alex Smith and Joe Cossins struck the crucial goals which earned Christleton all three points against bottom-of-the-league Vauxhall Motors.

Shaun Robinson and Mike Roberts were on target for the home side who remain two points adrift.
