CHESHIRE PHOENIX fell to their first defeat in six matches as the Glasgow Rocks got the better of them in their final BBL Cup group game.

The Rocks prevailed 88-78 at the Cheshire Oaks Arena with the Phoenix never recovering from a disastrous opening period which saw them trail by 16 points at 29-13.

Glasgow had extended their lead by half time with the Scottish side finding themselves 47-28 ahead in Ellesmere Port.

Phoenix began to come back into it in the third period, reducing the deficit back to 16 points as they went into the final period 68-52 behind.

The difference proved to be too much for Cheshire to recover as they eventually lost out by ten points.

Parker Jackson-Cartwright top scored for the hosts with 25 points, while Ben Mockford (19) and Jalen Hayes (14) also contributed heavily.

But ultimately, Cheshire were unable to contain a constant stream of points from Glasgow’s Alastair Fraser who scored 28 points and Greg Pryor with 24.

Prior to the defeat, Cheshire Phoenix’s place in the quarter finals of the BBL Cup was already mathematically secured with Leicester’s previous victory over Glasgow.

Phoenix will now face London City Royals for a place in the semi-finals.
