CHESHIRE PHOENIX coach Ben Thomas has urged his side to sustain their positive momentum in two ‘massive’ BBL Cup matches this weekend.
The Nix head to Glasgow Rocks tonight before a home clash with northern division leaders Sheffield Shark s on Sunday.
Back-to-back wins have galvanised the Ellesmere Port club, who must secure a top four league berth in the revised cup format to reach the quarter-finals.
“It’s two massive games for us and it feels like we’re in a really good place heading into them,” said Thomas.
“The wins we’ve had against Leicester and Manchester have lifted morale and it feels like our momentum has changed after a tough start.
“Already it looks as though it’ll be between us and Glasgow for that fourth spot, so it’s important we keep this positive running this weekend.
“We’ve got to be aggressive from the start and show the quality we have in the last couple of weeks.”
Summer signing Parker Jackson-Cartwright has been central to Cheshire’s upturn in form.
The former college player excelled in the 82-64 success against Manchester Giants, posting 23 points, 11 rebounds, nine steals and eight assists.
Thomas heaped praise on the 24-year-old point guard, and insists the best is yet to come
He added: “We always knew how good a player he could be, based on how well he did in his career as a college athlete. “When he arrived it was about how quickly we could get him embedded in this league. But he’s started well and and I’m sure there’s more to come he he can become on one the top performers in this league.”
