ROB CHARLES struck a superb second half hat-trick to secure a first win of the season for Waverton Centurion.

Jake Lloyd struck inside five minutes to give Great Bear an early lead in their Chester and District Sunday League Section B clash at Waverton. It remained 1-0 until the game burst into life five minutes into the second half.

Bernie Biggs equalised before scoring again soon after to put Waverton into the lead. Two goals from Rob Charles then gave Waverton a 4-1 lead with twenty minutes to go, and although Lewis Cooney reduced the deficit, Charles struck again to complete his hat-trick in a game which finished 5-2.

Elsewhere in Section B, a Ben Sache brace for Dee Rangers wasn’t enough to prevent his side from slipping to a 3-2 defeat against AFC Tattenhall. Damien Smith grabbed the winner for the hosts in the final minutes after James With and Collen Mutete also struck for the eventual winners.

AC Innovent came back from two goals down to beat Upton Youth Centre in the other Section B game of the weekend. Mathew Crank and Jonny Stones gave Upton the lead, with Elliot Pryce pulling one back for the visitors just before half-time. Pryce then scored again before a brace from Mark Frances secured the three points for AC Innovent.

In Section A of the Chester and District Sunday Football League, a hard-fought Ellesmere Port derby game saw Castrol Club nick a late 1-0 win at Vauxhall Motors with Peter Barnet scoring two minutes from time.

Elsewhere, Straw Hat ran out 5-2 winners at home to Axis United courtesy of a hat-trick from Ash Wardle and a Lee Ludgate brace. Jordan Fulton and Mitch Mowatt scored the goals in reply for the visitors.

There was an exciting start to the First Round of the Cheshire Sunday Cup with 17 goals being scored in two games.

Goals from Scott Riach and Charlie Bell were not enough to prevent Stockport Dynamos from romping to a 7-2 win to eliminate FC Mitchell Construction.

In the other cup game, Steve Foster bagged four goals to help fire his Tarvin Rex side into the second round after a 5-3 win over FC Phoenix.

Foster put his side ahead before Phoenix equalised soon after. Bevan Burey put Tarvin back into the lead before Foster scored three more second half goals to put the hosts in control until Phoenix scored two late goals to make it 5-3 at the final whistle.
