UPTON AA host Mossley Hill Athletic this weekend and are looking to build upon their impressive 5-0 opening day victory over their local rivals Chester Nomads.

But Upton boss Todd Reid admits that it will be a tough game, made even more difficult by the fact that he will be without several players for the fixture.

Speaking to the Standard about the upcoming clash, Reid said: “Mossley Hill on Saturday will be a tough game.

“I’m feeling cautious going into it, mostly because we’ll be missing five or six lads through injury and being away on holiday.

“But it’s something we’ve got to deal with, and something we’ve dealt with before. It’ll be a difficult game, but we have a lot of attacking options who will get us goals.”

Upton AA got their 2019/20 West Cheshire Football League campaign underway in scintillating fashion last week as they powered to a 5-0 away win over Chester Nomads – who received two first-half red cards.

Manager, Todd Reid, is now hoping for more of the same. He added: “It was a good performance. It finished 5-0, but they had a couple of players sent off early on.

“We managed to get a goal before half-time and then we made an attacking switch at the break which let us go for it and it could easily have ended up as eight or nine.

“It was a great win to get us going, and we’ll take that into our next game against Mossley Hill who also won their first game (1-0 vs Rainhill Town).”

Chester Nomads, meanwhile, bounced back from that heavy defeat against Upton AA with a 4-2 away win over Newton on Wednesday (August 14).

They’ll now travel to face a Richmond Raith Rovers side who won their opening game of the season 3-1 at home to Neston nomads.

Elsewhere, in the Cheshire Football League, Blacon Youth Club return to action against Whaley Bridge Athletic after two strong wins over Lostock Gralam and Altrincham Reserves respectively.

The upcoming clash, though, begins a hectic fixture schedule for Blacon YC who will face three consecutive home games in seven days and five matches overall in two weeks.
