SAINTS boss Justin Holbrook hailed the collective team performance as the Super League leaders bounced back to winning ways with a 38-2 over Huddersfield Giants.

Highlight of the night was a hat-trick by Tommy Makinson, with half Jonny Lomax notching his 100th career try for the Saints.

With Lachlan Coote, Theo Fages and Lomax pulling the strings off the pack of a dominant pack, in which Morgan Knowles excelled, Saints were always in control.

Holbrook said: “It was very good tonight from all 17 and it was great to watch.

“For Tommy to start his sets like that and then to get a hat-trick shows what an awesome player he is. It is great to have him in the side.”

St Helens Star:

Those tries were well-finished, but Coote’s vision was key to creating them with some excellent vision and execution.

“Cootey is loving his rugby league and it is showing by the way he is playing. He is such a good influence on our team and contributing the right amount.

“He is not doing too much, but every time he has an opportunity, he is taking it and creating something for us, as is Jonny and Theo.

“Those guys in particular are tremendous and all of our forward pack stood up for us tonight,” he said.

St Helens Star:

Lomax brought up his century of touchdowns by chasing a kick and touching it down inches from the deadball line.

For a player who has had more than his fair share of ups and downs in his career, with injury, reaching the landmark 100 tries is a reward for the way he has taken his game up to another level.

“I feel like I’m sitting here just rapping everybody, but the season Jonny’s having this year is amazing, he’s been fantastic every week this year.

“The way he’s controlling games and the way he’s playing is the best I have seen him,” he said.

Again Holbrook rotated his squad, but with no slip-ups this week.

St Helens Star:

He explained: “It’s nothing too clear on rotation. Last year we had the international break where four of them played, but the rest had a week off, we don’t have that this year.

“We gave a fair few a rest last week and Dom, Regan and Matty Lees a break tonight.

“We are going week-to-week to see how they pull up and what they’ve done in the previous weeks and with the performance and medical staff we make a decision on that.

“The good thing is, that it is all about the squad and we had three who did not play tonight and we did well.

“Those three will definitely come back in next week.”
