CHESTER coach Jan Van Deventer has urged his side to play with the ‘right mindset’ in Saturday’s away clash against South Leicester.

The Hare Lane club remain fifth in the National League Two North standings after they came through a torrid October fixture schedule in style.

Impressive victories against strong Hinckley and Stourbridge sides eclipsed an agonizing last-gasp defeat at leaders Hull Ionians as Van Deventer’s men kept in touching distance of the league’s title contenders.

Chester now travel to the east midlands to face a club struggling for form, with Van Deventer demanding ‘focus and commitment’ from his players this weekend.

He said: “It’s vital that our mindset is right for games like this.

“We’ve done well to match up to the strongest sides in this league so far this season, but away games like this one are where you can come unstuck.

“Consistency is key to success at any level and we know we have to build on the positive results of the last month.

“South Leicester aren’t a particularly well-supported club and crowds are pretty small there usually.

“That lack of atmosphere is one factor you need to be ready for, and the pitch there has been quite scruffy in the past when we’ve played there.

“The conditions probably won’t be ideal, so we need to be ready both mentally and in terms of our game plan.

“If we’re complacent about coming away with the points then we could easily slip up down there.

“But we should go there in positive mood because I felt we showed a lot of character to take the win against Stourbridge.

“After opening up a big lead and then being pegged back to all square, it was great that we found that extra gear when it mattered late on.”

Pacy winger Macc Van Sertima is in contention to start after his late winning try against Stourbridge last weekend, while Shay Owen and Tom Holloway could also return.

A top of the table clash sees pacesetters Hull host in-form Huddersfield, while third meets fourth as Hinckley entertain Sedgley Park.

Struggling Macclesfield head to Sheffield Tigers, Tynedale host Preston Grasshoppers, Leicester Lions go to Wharfedale, Stourbridge host Fylde while basement side Peterborough Lions host Otley.
