JAN VAN DEVENTER hailed an ‘outstanding’ team performance as Chester inflicted a 19-0 reverse on Division Two North leaders Hinckley.
The Leicestershire club entered the contest with the division’s only unbeaten record, but were comprehensively outplayed.
The hosts held a 7-0 lead at the interval after a superb try from Tom Holloway, who collected a deft inside pass from winger George Baxter. James Robbins added the conversion.
Hinckley’s attacking endeavours were superbly marshalled by some powerful Chester tackling and the hosts extended their advantage early in the second half though Guy Ford's converted try.
A further try from a late driving maul capped the victory and delighted coach Van Deventer.
He said: “It was an outstanding team performance. It was the perfect response from the players after we lost our own unbeaten streak last week.We were so dominant throughout the game, it’s really set the standard now.”
Hull Ionians won 24-12 at South Leicester, Sedgley Park beat Sheffield Tigers 37-29, Macclesfield lost 19-11 at Preston, while Leicester Lions won 29-15 at Otley.
