CHESTER CITY LADIES boss Wayne Gresty believes his side are due a change of fortune after their 3-1 defeat at Sale United.

Gresty's side dominated the Cheshire Premier Division clash for long spells but were ultimately punished by United's clinical finishing

United's Abbie Porter opened the scoring from the penalty spot after a clumsy challenge inside the Chester box.

The visitors responded well but found the Sale defence and goalkeeper Kate Smith in inspired form, as the hosts preserved their lead to half-time.

Sustained pressure after the interval saw Chester draw level courtesy of Nathalie Donnelly's superb first-time strike, which nestled in the top corner.

Despite looking likely to go on and win the game, Chester were punished through two opportunistic strikes in the final 20 minutes.

The result leaves Chester fifth in the standings, with Gresty left frustrated by Sunday's outcome.

He said: "We dominated possession and chances created but have come away with nothing.

"We looked pretty comfortable and then went behind to a a very soft looking penalty.

"Then we got ourselves back into it and looked the most likely to score but it wasn't to be.

"Instead, they've gone up the other end and scored twice more even though there were only five shots on our goal all game.

"We created the better openings but we didn't quite get the rub of the green and hopefully we'll get better luck next weekend."

The Deva side return to action on Sunday at home to Stockport Ladies.
