The funeral of a popular councillor will take place next week.

Cllr Lynn Clare MBE, who represented Ellesmere Port Town for the Labour Party, died on February 9, aged 70.

As well as serving as Mayor of Ellesmere Port in 2015/16, Cllr Clare was on a number of committees and was awarded an MBE in 2004 after establishing the charity Parents Against Drug Abuse (PADA).

Cllr Clare’s funeral will be held at Blacon Crematorium on Friday, March 9 at 11.20am.

The family - who thanked the community for their 'love and support' - say that anyone wishing to say a ‘final farewell’ is welcome.

The funeral will be followed by a wake at Ellesmere Port Civic Hall from noon to 2.30pm.

Mourners will then be invited to raise a toast to Cllr Clare at the Sir Robert pub in Great Sutton from 3pm.
