THREE quarters of Cheshire West and Chester adults have now had their first Covid vaccine dose.

Latest figures revealed that as of June 15, a total of 225,652 adults in the borough had received at least one coronavirus vaccination – equivalent to 75 per cent of the adult population.

Currently, just under 5,000 first Covid vaccine doses are being administered in the area each week.

A total of 171,790 second vaccine doses have now been administered in Cheshire West and Chester – equivalent to 57.1 per cent of the adult population.

The rate of second doses has ramped up in recent weeks and about 13,000 second doses were administered from June 9-15.

Anyone aged 21 or over can now book their Covid vaccine at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/

It is expected all adults aged 18 or over will be given the chance to book their Covid vaccine by the end of this week.

Those aged 40 or over are being encouraged, where possible, to rebook their second vaccine appointment for eight weeks after their first vaccine, rather than the original 11-week gap. The NHS says it will be contacting people in higher-risk groups directly to offer earlier appointments.

This is because of the rising threat posed by the Delta variant, which has seen the number of cases soar in the UK, including in Cheshire West and Chester, which yesterday (June 16) recorded its highest one-day increase of cases (87) for several months.
