A NEW bar in a Cheshire town is due to launch this week.

James Glover, behind Hideout, and Mike Mason, who runs Institution, have joined forces to reinvent nights out in Bridge Street, Warrington.

After an investment of £250,000 and months of work, The Grand will launch on Thursday at 5pm.

The pair have completely transformed the former Big Bar, which had a chequered history, into an art deco style upmarket bar with a fully waited on service described as a 'restaurant without food'. It has created 15 jobs.

One of the key features will be two large beer tanks filled with Pilsner Urquell delivered direct from the brewery in Plzeň in the Czech Republic.

There will be a high end cocktail and wine menu too.

The building's original ceiling has also been restored with the addition of chandeliers from The Savoy in London.

It will be like coming full circle for James on launch day as Big Bar is where he started out as a DJ.

The Great Sankey resident now DJs at the likes of Creamfields and Neighbourhood Weekender.

He said: "It’s been hard work but we've had the time to do it during lockdown and we knew the end result would be amazing. It’s a special place to me as I started DJing there.”

When restrictions allow, The Grand will also be a spot where people can enjoy the likes of live jazz music, big bands and singers.

Pre-booking is recommended as capacity is limited to 80 with social distancing but there will be walk-in space available on a first-come first-served basis. Email info@thegrandbar.co.uk
