Chester is preparing for a vibrant showcase of creativity and inclusion at this year's Kaleidoscope Festival.
The week-long celebration, now in its eighth year, takes place from July 6 to 10 at Storyhouse and across the city centre, shining a spotlight on learning-disabled artists and audiences through a packed programme of performances, workshops and community events.
Nicola Haigh, communities manager at Storyhouse, said: “We are very excited for this years festival – we have been busy working with a small team from LIVE Cheshire who have co-curated this year’s festival! A big thanks to Joe, Rick and Ben who have been supported by Senior Support Worker Andrea Thomas Morris. We are delighted to have Award Winning Comedian - Benny Shakes back with his Edinburgh Fringe Show ‘Blue Badge Bunch’ which is back by popular demand on Thursday 9 July at 6pm - one not to miss!”
The festival begins on Monday, July 6 with the Chester Disability Pride Parade, which will fill the city’s streets with colour and music.
The parade route will pass along Northgate Street, Werbergh Street, Eastgate Street, and Exchange Square, where DJ Max Mutant will provide music.
Cheshire Dance will also be on hand to teach participants some moves.
Later that day, the Kaleidoscope Fashion Show will take place in Storyhouse’s The Kitchen, featuring adaptive clothing from Intotum and May Marigold.
The week continues with a Blue Room Takeover in the Garret Theatre and Garret Bar on Tuesday, July 7, and the Kaleidoscope Annual Disability Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, July 8.
The awards, hosted by Paul Wilshaw, celebrate individuals and groups from Chester, Cheshire, Wirral, and North Wales.
A Dance Able Workshop for young people aged 11 to 25 will also be held on July 8, led by Cheshire Dance.
On Thursday, July 9, Wanna Dance? Creative Jams invites people to explore movement and music, while the Blue Badge Brunch Gameshow offers an interactive comedy experience.
The festival concludes on Friday, July 10 with a Market Place and Meet Up in the Garret Bar and Kitchen and the return of Kaleidoscope’s Got Talent on the Storyhouse Theatre stage.
