A DRUG dealer has been spared jail after attempting to sneak cocaine into Creamfields by hiding it inside an insect zapper.
George Redshaw appeared before Chester Crown Court today, Monday, after pleading guilty to possession with intent to supply at the Daresbury music festival.
The court heard that on August 24, 2024, the 32-year-old attempted to enter Creamfields via the south entrance when he was picked out by a drugs dog.
He was taken to a search tent where he admitted to officers that he admitted he was in possession of 18 packets of cocaine which were secreted inside an insect zapper.
During questioning, Redshaw claimed that the drugs were for personal use.
However, following the charge he later admitted possession with intent to supply.
The 32-year-old, of Park Road in Swadlincote in Derbyshire, was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment, suspended for two years and ordered to pay a total of £337 to the court.
Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Tony Icke, who led the investigation, said: “Year after year, we issue multiple warnings telling revellers not to bother trying to bring drugs into Creamfields.
“Yet despite these warnings, there are always some people who think that they won’t be caught.
“Unfortunately, Redshaw was one of those people, he thought that police would never be able to find the drugs in his insect zapper, but he was wrong.
“So let this be a warning, while a large majority of Creamfields festivalgoers are respectful, those smuggling drugs into the event will be charged and dealt with by the courts.
“Do not make the same mistake as Redshaw, or next time it might be you in court.”
