A night of laughter is promised in Chester with a darkly comic new play.

Chester Little Theatre is preparing to stage Heaven Sent, a comedy about cash, greed and misadventures, written by French playwright Sebastien Thiery and translated into English by Charlie Gobbett.

The play will run from Saturday, May 9 to Saturday, May 16, with performances starting at 7.30pm each evening.

The story follows Bryan, an anaesthetist who comes home to find mysterious stacks of money appearing in ever-growing piles throughout his house.

As the cash continues to accumulate, paranoia takes hold and suspicion falls on his Polish cleaner, Kasia.

However, things take a darker turn when a violent and conspiracy-minded neighbour appears, escalating the situation even further.

Jess Toyne, director of Heaven Sent at Chester Little Theatre, said: "We hope our audiences have as much fun watching Heaven Sent as we've had in bringing the characters to life in rehearsals."

Beneath its comedic surface, the play explores themes of trust, suspicion and the unpredictable consequences of sudden fortune, all set within an ordinary domestic environment.
