Concert by Chester Male Voice Choir at Chester Town Hall

The concert will take place on Saturday, April 25 at 7.00pm, and will feature a guest appearance by the Coquet Concert Band from Northumberland.

The choir, founded in 1941, has toured extensively in the UK and overseas, performing in Germany, Holland, the United States, France, and Malta.

Its repertoire covers a wide range of musical genres, and the group has sung in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and other members of the Royal Family.

Richard Cain, chair of Chester Male Voice Choir, said: "We are delighted to be joined by Coquet Concert Band for this special concert at Chester Town Hall.

"It promises to be a wonderful evening of music and a rare opportunity to hear one of the North East's leading wind bands here in the North West."

Over the years, the choir has performed in some of the UK’s most iconic venues, including the Royal Albert Hall, Manchester Free Trade Hall, and Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.

It has also appeared in many of Europe’s great cathedrals, as well as Chester, Truro, Hereford, Liverpool, Manchester, Bangor, St. David’s, Carlisle, and Coventry.

The choir will be joined on stage by its musical director Joseph Mann and accompanist Helen Jackson.

On the night, Chester Male Voice Choir will be joined by the Coquet Concert Band, from Felton in Northumberland.

Founded in 2019, the band is made up of musicians with a passion for wind band music and live performance.

Its members range from experienced players to those returning to music after a break, and the band is known for its accessible and ambitious approach.

Andy Taylor, conductor of the Coquet Concert Band, said: "Music is at its best when it's shared.

"Whether we are rehearsing in a drafty hall or performing in a packed venue, the goal is always the same; to connect.

"We are very much looking forward to joining Chester Male Voice Choir for the concert, we can't wait to perform in Chester for the very first time."

Under Mr Taylor’s direction, the band has explored an eclectic repertoire.

This includes original wind band pieces, big-band hits, regional folk music, and contemporary works from stage and screen.
