THE ‘Angry Boater’ is coming to Chester to perform his stand-up in April.
Joel Sanders has been living on a canal boat for nearly two decades and will bring his Angry Boater show to Alexander’s Live on Sunday, April 12 and the show starts at 8pm.
Joel has featured series one and two of Channel 4’s Narrow Escapes, which brought more attention to his story of trying to make it in America as a stand-up.
He said: “I’ve lived on a canal boat for 18 years, prior to which I was a comic touring the US with the plan of being the first Brit to gig in all 50 states (I managed 40).
“I performed everywhere from ‘redneck’ bars across the Deep South to the casinos of Las Vegas and worked with many of my comedy heroes, including Robin Williams.”
But in 2008, after a show in Tennessee that didn’t go to plan, his American run came to an abrupt end.
Back in the UK, Sanders made a decision that would change his life completely – he bought a narrowboat.

Joel added: “This isn't a cosy show about canal life.
“It's about what happens when you leave the life you're supposed to have and try to build something else.
“Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
“Angry Boater is a unique blend of stand-up and storytelling – funny, honest and completely original.
“I spent years performing across America, from redneck bars in the Deep South to theatres and casinos in Las Vegas, chasing a simple goal: to become the first British comedian to perform in all 50 states.
“I made it to 40.
“Then one night changed everything.
“Nearly two decades later, still floating around the UK's waterways, he has turned his experiences into a show that's as unpredictable as the life behind it.
