CHESTER has been given the seal of approval from TV host Dermot O'Leary who paid a visit to the city ahead of an event he was involved in.
More than 550 children were enthused and inspired the by broadcaster and bestselling children’s author, who was in Oswestry yesterday, Tuesday, March 3, to celebrate World Book Day.
The X Factor presenter attended Oswestry School for a special literary celebration organised by Booka, Oswestry.
Speaking ahead of the event Dermot said he had been to Chester the day before he headed into Shropshire and said Chester was a ‘lovely city’.
He said it was similar to his home town of Colchester in Essex.
Following his visit to Oswestry he then headed to Birkenhead High School Academy for an event organised by Heswall-based Linghams Booksellers.
Dermot was full of praise for independent bookshops. He said:" They are an integral part of the community, just like the village pub. To them it's not just a job, it's a vocation and they care and get involved with helping the community."
When questioned by the youngsters, he shared that his favourite book as a child was the Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl and for World Book Day he would be dressing as Mr Tickle, as that was his five-year-old son's choice despite initially saying he wanted to be Toto the Ninja Cat!
He currently co-presents ITV's This Morning on Fridays, school holidays and bank holidays alongside Alison Hammond.
He presented the talent show competition The X Factor on ITV from 2007 until its final series in 2018,
