A MAN who filmed part of the Cheshire Oaks Big Wheel on fire has said he was left ‘shocked’.
The man, who asked not to be named, was visiting the wheel at the Ellesmere Port shopping district with his daughter when he noticed the fire at around 4.30pm on Sunday.
Others have since reported a smell of smoke as they went around.
In a statement released last night after being contacted by the Chester Standard, Cheshire Oaks confirmed: “There was a minor electrical issue, the ride was closed immediately with no injuries reported and guests were refunded.
“The repairs and a full safety inspection were completed within 30 minutes.”
The man said he reported it to the relevant people and left the scene for their own safety but admitted he ‘could not believe’ the ride was accepting passengers within a short space of time.
He said: “I was genuinely in shock.
“The fire broke out at around 4.33pm on Sunday.
“The flames were extinguished quickly, but that was not what shocked me.

“What shocked me was the fact that after about 15 minutes the wheel seemed to start operating again, and it looked as though it began taking passengers.
“My daughter and I ran away from the area, and I will not be returning there again.
“It was reported to the person who was operating the wheel.”
