A CHESHIRE actor has has explored is love of folklore and horror in a new British anthology film starring some iconic stars of the genre.
Blood Stream is a horror anthology film in the vein of "Tales from the Crypt" and the "V/H/S" franchise, utilising practical effects and stunning special effects make-up.
It stars Nathan Head, an actor born and raised in Warrington and now living in Hoole, Chester, best known for his work in independent horror films.
Born in 1980 in Warrington, Nathan Head trained at the Northern Actors Centre in Manchester, whose patrons included Sarah Lancashire and Shobna Gulati.
He began gaining attention with his role as Raymond Korkinsky, a demonic character in The Archangel Murders, which was screened at Cannes in 2010.
Nathan is widely recognized for his chilling performances in British horror, notably Trinc, the killer clown in The Midnight Horror Show and Officer Heinrich Berger in Robert and the Toymaker, part of Netflix’s Robert the Doll franchise.
Upcoming projects for Nathan include Dracula: Rise of the Vampire, a continuation of the Hammer horror legacy, set fifty years after The Satanic Rites of Dracula.
Nathan said: "Being part of Blood/Stream has been a fantastic experience, especially as the project is so deeply connected to Wales. My great-grandfather’s family was Welsh, so it felt like I was coming full circle, filming scenes on location in North Wales and working alongside talented local cast and crew.
"In the anthology, I play Don, a mysterious character tied to a secret organisation and an ancient Welsh legend, which made the role even more intriguing. To be able to combine my heritage, my passion for horror, and my long-standing collaboration with Hellbound Media has been incredibly rewarding.
"I was born and grew up in Warrington, and it’s always exciting to come back to my roots, I feel proud to represent the town while working on projects with such strong ties to North Wales. I’ve known Hellbound Media for years, and collaborating with them is always a joy; they’re endlessly creative and brilliant to work with."
He added: "Being from Warrington, a town with its own tales of the supernatural, from Ginny Greenteeth lurking in the ponds, to the Crawling Man by the Black Horse, and ghostly footsteps in Walton Hall, the eerie atmosphere of home has always fascinated me. Growing up reading Wally Barnes’ books really sparked my love of folklore and horror, which is exactly the kind of spirit Blood/Stream is full of. I think those local stories feed into the same kind of dread and intrigue that anthology horrors do so well."
Through five shocking stories, Blood Stream combines themes of both body horror and folk horror in a thrilling gore-soaked package.
It was shot in Chester, Southport, Cardiff, Portishead, Wrexham and Rhyl.
The film also stars Spencer Wilding, Human Centipede 2's Laurence R. Harvey, the Female Cenobite from Hellbound: Hellraiser 2 Barbie Wilde, as well as established horror actor Vicki Glover.
Hellbound Media has launched a Kickstarter campaign - which you can find at http://kck.st/475v7CX - for post production on the film.
They are appealing to horror fans to help finish the project to its full potential while grabbing themselves some amazing rewards as well as exclusive behind-the-scenes content.
Mark Adams, of Hellbound Media, said: "We want to be able to finish the film to the quality we believe you deserve, adding more gory special effects to the finale, grading the footage, and organising a truly terrifying sound design and musical score.
He added: "These things are not cheap when done well, and we want to finance our amazing team completing the post-production at the highest possible quality."
