One year ago today, it was reported that a Chester city centre pub had reopened its doors following a six-figure revamp, creating six new jobs as a result.

Built in 1904 as a telephone exchange, Off the Wall lies next to a famous Roman wall which was built all the way back in 70AD, with the same wall crossing over into the pub’s beer garden.

Over the years, the building has been home to various businesses, including a showroom and a café. Since 2010, it became Off The Wall.

Part of Stonegate Group’s Social Pub and Kitchen collection, the pub group had reinvigorated the city centre pub with a big transformation.

Internally, both floors received a huge revamp.

The first floor had a new bar, available to hire for occasions such as birthdays and weddings.

Sat opposite the Chester Roman Gardens, the pub is also a popular spot for dog walkers with four-legged friends welcome throughout the pub for a post-walk pint.

Off The Wall also provides a view of the Roman Gardens from the pub’s conservatory area.

Contemporary décor was scattered throughout the venue with the new design, brought to life by a feature mural from Tiny Rebel, whose beers joined a line-up of craft including options from Brixton and Beavertown.

The venue has an additional five big screens, showcasing Sky Sports and TNT Sports throughout the pub.

The venue launched with a new food and drink menu featuring sharers, small plates, burgers and pizza alongside a range of cocktails, all available 2-4-1 all day, every day.

In addition, a new bottomless brunch menu was launched.

A neon night saw Off The Wall transform into a neon extravaganza with a huge turnout witnessing a DJ and live entertainment until 3am.

Daniel White, general manager, said at the time: “These renovations align with Stonegate Group’s commitment to always improve and innovate, meaning we can give locals the best possible experience at our beloved pub.

“We want the investment to position our pub as the place to be for students as well as being the premiere place to watch sport in Chester with a huge range of big screens, and great drinks at great prices.

“We’re confident in our top-class beer and tasty food range at competitive prices, and we know we’ve got one of the best, if not the best drinks range in the area, all at affordable prices for both students and locals.”
