A MAN who has been left needing his nose rebuilding following a brutal attack says he has no sympathy for his attacker’s long jail sentence.
The man, who has asked to remain anonymous, was in Chester Crown Court on Friday, September 5 to see Connor Jewsbury, 21, of Cross Green in Upton, sentenced to a minimum of three years.
It was the end of a nightmare period for the man who had his nose bitten in an unprovoked attack in a bar earlier this year.
He said the attack ‘came from nowhere’ when he offered his hand to be shaken’, leaving him with long-term, appearance altering injuries.
He said: “Jewsbury ripped my nose down the left-hand side, smashing my septum and nearly going through the right-hand side.
“I had to have it sewn up and I also had three infections because a human bite is worse than an animal bite.
“Then I was told I might need a reconstruction because it’s not connected to my skull anymore.”
Jewsbury did not plead guilty immediately, but the man said the weight of evidence against him has led to his conviction.
And he also praised Judge Simon Berkson for ‘seeing through’ his mitigation.
He added: “It went in my favour because when the judge listened to what his barrister had to say, I felt the judge washed his hands of him.
“He was trying to say that he had problems, but the judge didn’t accept his mitigation.

“I didn’t have to go through it all, but they were going to play the footage except it didn’t work.
“The judge re-enacted it, very well I add, and it did the incident justice to show how shocking it was.
“He has been suitably punished – the judge gave it to him both barrels and I was surprised.
“At first the judge said seven years but dropped it to five years because it was his first offence.
“He will be on licence for five years.
“For a stupid incident as a young lad, he’s ruined his life and I don’t know why he didn’t just shake my hand.”
The man added: “I have no sympathy for him whatsoever.
“My friends back home have asked me what I did and I said nothing and that he did it off the cuff, which they thought was rotten.
“I couldn’t understand what was going through his mind; the judge said he couldn’t believe he was a man who’d gone through rehabilitation in his life and that he did that.”
Cheshire Police welcomed the jailing of Jewsbury.
DC Tim Butler said: “Jewsbury’s behaviour and the level of violence meted out by him was horrendous.
"The injuries will have an impact on the victim for life, for which he will need ongoing medical treatment.
"People should be able to go out for a night out without this happening to them.
“Jewsbury is now paying price for his actions, and I hope that he now realises actions do indeed have consequences.”
