Coronation Street star set to be 'killed off' after 11 years

Billy Mayhew, who is played by Daniel Brocklebank, is rumoured to be "killed off" in “explosive” scenes after 11 years on the ITV soap.

Bosses are allegedly “currently plotting” how the archdeacon will exit the cobbles.

As a source told The Sun: “Corrie bosses are busy plotting how to kill off Billy, having decided to axe Daniel earlier this year.

“There aren’t any plans to bring him back onto the soap so it makes sense to make his exit the most impactful and explosive it can be. 

“It’s likely Billy will be a focus point of the Christmas/New Year storylines, with fans expected to be at the edge of their seats in the run-up.”

Speaking about his exit previously, Daniel told the publisher: “I have been working on Corrie for a quarter of my life.

"I have adored every minute I have been in that building and have never not looked forward to going into work.

"I love everyone who works on this show and, whilst I am sad to be going, I am equally excited to see what the future holds.”

Producer Kate Brooks commented: “Billy will be involved in a major storyline over the coming months, which will see him tested in ways he never imagined, as friendships and his faith are pushed to the limit.

“We’re incredibly sad to bid farewell to Dan, who has been fantastic in some of Corrie’s biggest storylines over the past few years, most notably Paul’s MND.

"An actor of immeasurable talent and skill, and an absolute treasure behind the scenes - he will be missed by all of us on the cobbles."

Taking to Reddit, Corrie fans have been discussing how they think Billy’s end storyline will play out.

Many think the character could be "killed off" in the ITV soap crossover with Emmerdale next year, as someone wrote: “I am curious if this will have anything to do with the Emmerdale crossover. Isn’t that due to come out around the same time?”

Another added: “I think he's gonna die in the crossover.”

Coronation Street has told Newsquest they don’t comment on story speculation.
