Golden Age of Hollywood concert set for Chester this week

The Fulltone Orchestra will perform The Golden Age of Hollywood at Chester Cathedral this Friday, June 27 at 7.30pm.

The concert promises a nostalgic evening filled with music from some of cinema’s most iconic films.

"The symphony orchestra, accompanied by our sensational soloists, will transport audiences to the glitz and glamour of classic Hollywood for this splendid evening of music that you really won’t forget.

"Whether you’re a movie lover or simply enjoy great music, The Golden Age of Hollywood offers a chance to experience the magic of these classic films on a wonderful and exciting scale."

The orchestra, made up of 50 musicians, will perform music from films including The Magnificent Seven, Ben-Hur, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and The Great Escape.

Anthony Brown, musical director of the Fulltone Orchestra (Image: The Fulltone Orchestra) The evening will also feature James Bond themes, Rodgers and Hammerstein classics, and songs made famous by Judy Garland, Elvis Presley, Fred Astaire, and Ginger Rogers.

Tributes will also be paid to legendary composers such as Max Steiner, Bernard Herrmann, and Henry Mancini.

The concert will feature solo performances from Edward Kerr and Jemma Brown.

Mr Kerr has been performing for more than 30 years across a variety of genres, from Italian arias to big band classics and rock.

Ms Brown trained under Geraldine Roche ARCM (Hons) and has taken part in numerous professional musical projects, including a recent performance of Sir Karl Jenkins's The Peacemakers with the Fulltone Orchestra.

She is currently studying for her LLCM and works as a vocal coach at Devizes Music Academy, where she supports aspiring singers.

Ms Brown also leads The Big Sound, a community choir.

The Fulltone Orchestra was founded in 2017 by Mr Brown and is based in the South West.

The orchestra is known for its wide-ranging repertoire, which spans classical masterpieces and contemporary works.

Tickets for The Golden Age of Hollywood start at £12 and can be booked online at chestercathedral.com.

They are also available in person from the Chester Cathedral box office.

Part of the Fulltone Orchestra’s UK tour, the concert aims to transport audiences back to the glamour and excitement of one of Hollywood’s most influential eras.

Organisers hope the show will appeal to both film fans and music lovers alike, offering a rare chance to experience these classic works performed live in a historic setting.
