THE Grosvenor Shopping Centre will play host to illuminating exhibitions curated by staff and students at the University of Chester.
Contemporary Art Space Chester (CASC) in Castlefield Gallery, New Art Spaces is currently exhibiting Chester through the decades as documented by Cheshire Life magazine, which celebrated its 90th anniversary in 2024.
The Chester Lives in Cheshire Life exhibition includes archive magazine covers, and articles on the shopping centre, sporting events, historic buildings and more.
The collection is organised and curated by Dr Matt Davies, senior lecturer in English Language and English Literature student, Alice Horner.
The work has been funded by a Culture and Society RKEI Breaking Boundaries grant and supported by Cheshire Archives, as well as Cheshire Life editor Joanne Goodwin.

Running alongside is Bakestonedale Moor – wind, weather and a mobile artmaking kit, which documents the development of a visual arts practice on the landscape of the Peak District, using doctoral research by Sabine Kussmaul.
Both exhibitions run until Friday, May 2, with the gallery open between 11am-4pm on Monday, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Gathering Stillness, a new exhibition by Chester-based interdisciplinary artist Estelle Woolley will utilise the former Topshop unit at the Grosvenor Shopping Centre from Wednesday, April 23 to Monday, May 5.
The display features a central garment-sculpture resembling a giant nest, delicate sculptural works and documentary images from a life drawing event.
The materials carry deeply personal and rural histories: farming tools, cow teeth, baler twine, horsehair, ferns, and a child’s sewing machine.
Woolley holds an MA in Fine Art from the University of Chester and has exhibited nationally and internationally.
She is currently lead artist at Castlefield Gallery New Art Spaces: Chester.
