A CHESHIRE mum who became a viral sensation will be bringing her new tour to her hometown next month.
Sophie McCartney, who lives in Grappenhall, is an award-winning comedian who swapped her career in PR for one in entertainment.
The mum-of-three began her journey to becoming a ‘mumfluencer’ in 2017, when her parody of Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You went viral.
The video about parenthood, sleepless nights and Dairylea was created to entertain Sophie and her friends but soon propelled her to internet stardom and has been viewed millions of times on Facebook and YouTube.
Since then, Sophie has published a book, launched a podcast and embarked on a record-breaking UK tour.
All this has kept Sophie incredibly busy, but manages to juggle it all while also being a mum-of-three.
The 40-year-old is currently touring her new show, One Foot in the Rave, and will be taking the tour to Warrington next month.
“It’s always a bit weird doing a home gig,” she said.
“I get more worried about doing those ones. When I do a gig in Warrington, I know all the school mums are going to be there.
"So, I have to make sure I don’t mess something up. There’s always a danger element that comes with it.
“It’s going to be lovely to be in Warrington, especially since if I wanted to, I could walk home afterwards.”
Despite feeling nervous about performing in front of the school mums, Sophie says that nothing has changed about the school run since she went viral.
“I have kind of always been that mum that’s like ‘oh what is she doing, she’s embarrassing,” she said.
“Where we live is small, everybody knows everybody. So, I kind of know all the parents on the school run and we’ve all got kids who know each other.
“I’m probably just looked at as ‘the late mum’ more than anything else.
“If they’re looking at me it’s because I’m walking against the traffic with my kids and the dog as the other parents are walking towards me having dropped their child off 20 minutes earlier.”
Sophie’s last tour largely focusses on parenthood, but her now show will focus more on the panic of getting older.
“I think this show is quite different,” she said.
“I had such a panic about turning 40, I’m terrified of the perimenopause so a lot of that has gone into the show, looking at the funnier side of it.
“I do a bit about the expectation of how often should a married woman with three children in her 40’s be having sex and the sighs of relief from the audience and the cackles of laughter from the women.
“I think it just shows everybody is very similar in life, we all have the same thoughts and anxieties and poking fun at them a little bit makes us feel better about them.”
Despite being on tour, recording a podcast and writing a book, the mum-of-three has no intentions of slowing down.
“I think what I’ve learned about sitting down to write stand-up is that I always start by going ‘I don’t know how I’m going to full an hour’, and then within an hour of sitting down I’ve got way too much,” she said.
“So hopefully I can keep going. There are definitely more shows in me.”
