Chester Philharmonic Orchestra is set to stage its first concert of the year.
The concert will take place at Chester Cathedral on Saturday, March 1, at 7.30pm.
The orchestra will perform Mahler's 'Symphony No. 1', Mozart's 'Flute Concerto No. 1' in G Major, and Kaprálová's 'Suita Rustica'.
Jonathan Small will conduct the orchestra, with award-winning flautist Stefano Cucullo as the guest soloist.
Mahler's 'Symphony No. 1', composed between late 1887 and March 1888, incorporates several songs, including 'Frere Jacques'.
The work was first performed at the Vigadó Concert Hall in Budapest, Hungary, in 1889.
Mozart's 'Flute Concerto No. 1' in G major, K. 313, was written in 1778 and is one of the two completed concertos commissioned by Dutch surgeon and amateur flutist Ferdinand Dejean.
The concert will also feature 'Suita Rustica' by Czech composer Vitezslava Kaprálová, as part of the orchestra's focus on female composers this year.
Kaprálová, a child prodigy, began composing at nine and left behind an impressive body of work despite her untimely death in 1940.
Jonathan Small, the guest conductor, is the senior oboe tutor at the Royal Northern College of Manchester and was the principal oboist with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra for 40 years.
He has conducted many orchestras, including the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra in Finland.
Cucullo is an experienced professional orchestral flautist and has been awarded the role of principal flute in a range of orchestras in his native Italy.
