Cheshire man wins prize in national photography competition

Tim Moran took part in the Caledonian Sleeper's contest, which invited people from across the UK to share images of their favourite views from the train's route.

The competition aimed to celebrate the country's most scenic locations on the overnight train's iconic journey.

Capturing the first rays of sunlight rising over the River Weaver secured Tim, from Northwich, a joint third place finish.

His photograph earned him a £100 Amazon voucher.

The competition was won by Duncan McEvoy, from York, who took a picture of the Caledonian Sleeper train travelling over the South Esk Viaduct in Montrose under a pink sky and Harvest Full Moon on September 25.

Duncan McEvoy's winning photograph (Image: Duncan McEvoy) As the winner, Duncan was rewarded with a return journey in an en suite Club Room on the Caledonian Sleeper, with dinner included, and a £500 Amazon voucher to spend on photography equipment.

His photograph will also be displayed in the Euston Guest Lounge, and he will receive a one-to-one virtual session with renowned photographer and guest judge Tony Marsh.

The runner-up prize went to Gordon Sellar from Bishopbriggs for his shot of Rannoch Moor, which he took while on a line patrol locomotive running in front of the Fort William portion of the Caledonian Sleeper.

The other joint third place finisher was Steve Slack from Amersham, Buckinghamshire, who photographed a sunrise over the Forth Bridge.

He also received a £100 Amazon voucher for his efforts.

"In fact, we ended up with four winners instead of just three as the calibre was so high.

"I’d like to express my appreciation to everyone who submitted a photograph into the competition and to our team of judges who had the difficult task of selecting our winners.

"There is such a large pool of talented photographers all over the country, so to reach one of our top spots is such a huge achievement.

"The images captured showcase just some of the magnificent scenery our country has to offer, all of which can be experienced while travelling on the Caledonian Sleeper."
