Flood alerts have been issued for residents in the Chester area by the River Dee and the River Weaver.
A flood warning is already in place for Highfield Drain and Finchetts Gutter at Abbot's Mead, Chester, around the Countess of Chester Country Park and A540 Parkgate Road. Residents in and around Parkgate Road, opposite the country park, are advised to start acting on their flood plan and anyone using the park is being advised to avoid low-lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses.
Flood alerts have also been issued amid high river levels caused by persistent rainfall over the past 48 hours.
Flooding is forecast to affect locations near the River Dee, with low lying land and roads expected to be most affected, particularly around low lying land and roads around the River Dee at Shocklach, Farndon, Handley, Lower Kinnerton, Chester and Puddington. Townfield Lane is expected to be cut off.
People are advised to take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water.
Similarly, caution is advised for those around low lying land and roads around the Rivers Weaver, Ducklow and Wheelock and their tributaries. The catchment area includes Nantwich, Frodsham, Crewe, Winsford and Northwich.
The Floodline helpline is available by calling 0345 988 1188 or, via textphone, at 0345 602 6340.
