Flooding has caused disruption on the railways at Hooton today (Monday, September 30).
Merseyrail had initially expected to be providing rail replacement services at Hooton from the outset on Monday, as persistent overnight rain raised the risk of flooding in the area.
However, commuters were able to get trains on the Chester line as normal.
But the rain has continued through the day. After earlier allowing trains to start and terminate at Hooton, in an update posted just after 3.45pm, Merseyrail announced that there is further disruption additionally affecting Ellesmere Port services now.
Trains will now start and terminate at Rock Ferry, with rail replacement bus services running between Rock Ferry and Chester, and Rock Ferry and Ellesmere Port.
Merseyrail customers have been granted ticket acceptance with Transport for Wales between Chester and Liverpool Lime Street for the rest of Monday.
The yellow weather warning for heavy rain remains in place for the region until 8pm on Monday.
Thereafter, the weather is expected to take a turn for the better for much of the rest of the week.
