POLICE have issued a statement after a Flintshire school was locked down this afternoon.
Sealand CP school circulated an email to parents on Monday afternoon, informing them that the school had been placed into lockdown.
Witnesses reported seeing multiple police cars in attendance at the school, with some blocking the entrance to it.
North Wales Police has now issued a statement on the matter. A spokesperson said: "Shortly after 12.30pm today, we responded to a concern for safety incident in the Sealand area.
"As a result, an increased police presence was in place on Farm Road for reassurance purposes, due to the close proximity to a primary school.
Chief Inspector Matt Geddes added: “This was an isolated incident and there is no wider threat to the public.
“Increased patrols were in place on Farm Road for reassurance and no threats were made against the school or anyone within.
“Thank you to residents for their support as we dealt with the incident.”
A school email sent to parents said: "This afternoon, in response to a request from North Wales Police (NWP), school enforced our lockdown procedures. NWP attended site to offer further support in keeping everyone within the community safe.
"The lockdown ensured that all pupils, staff and visitors were safe in line with our policy and practice. We thank NWP for their prompt support and advice during the lockdown.
"Unfortunately, we cannot comment or offer any further detail regarding this."
