A Chester primary school is celebrating attaining a very special award.
Hoole Church of England Primary School has attained the Platinum level of the School Games Mark Award. This is the highest level of this award, which shows the commitment of the school to offering high quality sports activities during and beyond the school day.
The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and the school is delighted to have been recognised for its success.
Children at Hoole CE Primary have enjoyed a thrilling year of sport. Sporting achievements this year include every child participating in swimming and water safety lessons free of charge and an increased number of children representing the school in tournaments and fixtures against other schools.
Every single child at Hoole took part in an intra-school sports competition and the school’s highly successful clubs programme has also flourished. In fact, the range of after school sports activities and clubs was increased in response to children’s suggestions for new and diverse sports opportunities.
Reception and Year 6 children completed bikeability courses and balance bike training.
The icing on the cake was the Olympic celebrations. During the school's Olympic Fortnight, pupils enjoyed visits from an Olympic gold medallist and a Paralympian athlete, as well as other sports specialists in fields such as martial arts.
Ann Millington, sports lead at the school, said: “With so many young people competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport.
"As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.”
Ros Flanders, headteacher, added: “A special thanks to school staff who have given up their time to ensure that children can access sports clubs and competitions.
"We are also grateful to Elizabeth Newstead and Clare Smedley, our local School Games Officers, for their work in enriching sport in the local community.”
The school is now looking forward to another year of super sports.
