A Chester fundraiser is charging through a gruelling 380km race across Wales, all in aid of a very worthy cause.
Dominic Gittings, 25, has been training for the Dragons Back Race over the past nine months, and this week has embarked on the six-day challenge.
The route sees 400 competitors traverse the Welsh mountains from Conwy Castle all the way down to Cardiff Castle. During the course, they will encounter 16,400 metres of elevation.
Writing on his Gofundme page, Dominic said he had originally intended to set out on this for personal achievement, but now has a more personal goal in mind.
His friend's brother Leo Collins was sadly diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour earlier this year – Stage 4 Diffuse Midline Glimona.
Leo is currently undergoing treatment for his condition, and it is hoped he can go on a course of immunotherapy which consists of regular, personalised vaccinations in Germany.
Such treatment is expensive, and Dominic has raised over £2,500 from his challenge already to help pay for the treatment programme.
On day four of the challenge, Dominic is among the front-runners on overall times, and is expected to complete his challenge on Saturday, September 7.
