A PUB has achieved a new milestone following a difficult few months.

The Red Lion situated in the village of Marford is delighted to announce that they have been awarded a five-star rating from the Food Hygiene Agency. This comes after two ratings of zero earlier this year prior to a change in management.

The pub was taken over by Wigan-based management company OV-Group in June before receiving a huge refurbishment to transform the venue from an Indian restaurant to a traditional classic community local.

Before the change in management the establishment received a food hygiene rating of zero in December 2023 and again in April 2024.

Jordan, from OV-Group said: "The new rating has really shown another big milestone in our improvements at the site and lots more of what is to come. This was one of our biggest priorities.

"When we took over the site, there had previously been two ratings of 0 recorded … but in great company fashion, we have pulled this right back!"

Initially, the pub was taken over by Nancy Jones and Gemma Smith who were thrilled to welcome new customers to the improved establishment. Nancy has since moved on to a new career path, leaving Gemma to happily take the reigns.

The pub on Marford Hill features a log burner, new carpets, dedicated games area, traditional soft furnishings, new bar, newly landscaped garden, new colour scheme and more appropriate light fittings.

Customers are welcome to celebrate by trying out their menu of homemade classics, as well as frequent offers on selected alcoholic drinks.
