A DEDICATED team from a Chester based care group successfully completed a 25km trek across the Yorkshire Dales, raising funds for Help for Heroes.

The team of eight from Sandstone Care set off from Sedbergh, West Yorkshire, at 9am on Saturday, August 3, and completed the challenging walk in just over eight hours.

Holly Lupi, head of marketing at Sandstone Care Group, said: “Participating in the 25km hike across the Yorkshire Dales was challenging but very rewarding.

"Seeing a team from our care homes unite for such a worthy cause was really inspiring, and the breathtaking scenery added to the experience.

"Raising funds for Help for Heroes, a charity deeply significant to our residents, made every effort worthwhile."

The event featured a total of 29 participants tackling a 1080m ascent, guided by RAW Adventures and Help for Heroes.

Siobhan Warren, event officer at Help for Heroes, said: “We had an amazing turnout, and the cooler weather was a bonus. I'm immensely proud of everyone who took part, from seasoned hikers to beginners, all contributing greatly to our cause.”

Oak Springs Care Home is part of the Sandstone Care Group, which has selected Help for Heroes as its charity of the year.

The group has raised over £2,500 in 2024, with additional events and activities planned for the rest of the year.

James Parkin, director of Sandstone Care Group, said: “All of the Directors are incredibly proud of our hiking team for taking on such a significant challenge and raising funds for Help for Heroes.

"Partnering with this charity in 2024 is especially meaningful to us, as many of our residents are veterans or have family members currently serving in the Armed Forces.”
