CHESHIRE West and Chester Council’s legal team are seeking a court order after a Traveller group who set up camp at Ellesmere Port Sports Village did not leave as directed.

The unauthorised encampment, which includes two caravans, was set up at the site on Tuesday (June 4).

Following an assessment by the Traveller Team, the group were later served with a section 77 notice, under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994.

This piece of legislation instructs the group to leave by an agreed date.

The Council’s latest update states that its legal team is now in the process of obtaining an order from Magistrates’ Court in order to move the group on.

This is likely to be a section 78 notice, a possession order, to remove persons and their vehicles that are unlawfully on land.
