POLICE have been quick to reassure residents that there is no threat to the community at large following the fatal stabbing of a man in Ellesmere Port.

Officers were called to reports that a man had been assaulted on Summertrees Road on Wednesday, May 1, at around 8.20pm.

The victim, 34-year-old Lloyd Velasquez, is believed have been stabbed several times. He was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital, where the 34-year-old sadly died of his injuries.

Mr Velasquez' family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Two arrests have since been made, a 19 and a 21-year-old man from Ellesmere Port.

Standing in front of the police cordon on Summertrees Road this afternoon (Thursday, May 2), Chief Superintendent Jon Betts said that he understood residents’ concerns but that this type of incident was “incredibly rare”.

Chief Superintendent Betts said: “We believe that all of the parties involved were known to each other.

“We understand the concerns of residents, but we believe that this is an isolated incident and we do not believe there is any threat to the wider community, either in Ellesmere Port or in Cheshire at large.”

Both men remain in police custody at separate police stations in Chester.
