AN UNAUTHORISED camp has been set up on Council-owned land in Chester.
The Traveller group, who have set up camp at Wrexham Road Park & Ride site, first arrived at the location on Tuesday, April 30.
The Council have confirmed that the settlement, which includes four caravans, will now be assessed by an officer from the Cheshire and Warrington Traveller Team.
During the process various checks are made including welfare, cleanliness, disruption to local businesses and obstruction of highways.
The Council can choose to evict the group, but must comply with Human Rights legislation and other procedures.
A decision can also be made to allow the group to remain for a short period of time.
If the decision is made to evict the group, a mutually agreed date will be selected by which they must leave.
If this is not adhered to, then the Council can look to the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act to order the group to leave under section 77.
