An “utterly selfish” driver was caught clocking up speeds of up to 137mph on the M53 motorway.

At around 2.45pm on Thursday, April 25 officers from the Matrix Road Policing Unit caught a driver travelling 137mph between Junctions 4 and 3 on the M53.

After passing an unmarked police car, the driver was stopped by officers and issued with a traffic offence report.

The driver will appear in court.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “A vehicle was detected as travelling 137mph between junctions 4 and 3 on the M53 on Thursday 25 April at around 2.45pm.

"The vehicle was stopped by officers from Matrix Road Policing Unit and issued with a Traffic Offence Report.”

Posting on social media platform, X, a spokesperson from Merseyside Police’s Road Policing Unit said: “Today's utterly selfish driver is the person who thought it was acceptable to do 137 MPH down the M53.

"Their observations weren't up to scratch either after passing one of our unmarked cars and finding out the consequences of their actions. Off to court you go."
