WEST Cheshire CAMRA have announced their branch Pub of the Year, with one city centre venue taking home the coveted title.

The Cavern of the Curious Gnome, located within The Rows, has been voted as the best in the city in 2024, with the pub set to receive its award at a presentation on Thursday, April 25 at 8pm.

Situated above Paysan wine bar at 61 Bridge Street Row East, CAMRA’s What Pub guide says:

“Upstairs you'll ascend into the decidedly offbeat Cavern of the Curious Gnome. Here, a colourful large papier-mâché dwarf gazes down on a Belgium beer grotto. Red-and-white spotted toadstool seating immediately catches the eye but there's plenty more quirkiness to be found amongst the decor.

“On the beer front, besides the welcome four hand pumps serving changing cask ales, Belgian beeroisseurs will be delighted by a diverse selection of lambics, gueuzes, Trappist ales and much more. The Cavern offers CAMRA members a very generous 20% off on cask from Monday to Thursday inclusive.”

The Cavern of the Curious Gnome serves one regular beer, in the form of Ossett White Rat, and has three guest ales.

The Cellar and the Olde Cottage, both in Chester, were placed second and third respectively. Also shortlisted were Bondies Bar, Ellesmere Port and The Tap.

The Cavern of the Curious Gnome will now go on to compete with the winners from other branches in the county for the title of Champion Pub of Cheshire.
