A GROUP of travellers have been ordered to leave land opposite a primary school.

It comes after six caravans and associated towing vehicles moved onto land opposite St Phillip Westbrook CofE Primary School in Warrington.

The group formed an unauthorised encampment on the car park at the Westbrook Centre, near Asda supermarket, yesterday, Thursday.

This is according to an unauthorised encampment log for Cheshire and Warrington operated by Cheshire West and Chester Council.

The log by the Cheshire and Warrington Traveller Team states this afternoon, Friday, that a section 60C notice has been served to the group on the privately-owned land.

A section 60C notice gives the landowner, their representative or police the power to make a request that the encampment leave.

It comes following a spate of incursions by caravans over recent days and weeks.

Another camp has been set up in the town, with three caravans and towing vehicles pitching up on the overspill car park at Orford Neighbourhood Hub on Jubilee Way yesterday.

The log states that a council officer is to visit the group on the private land.

Around 10 caravans and towing vehicles pitched up on the car park of Junction Nine Retail Park on Wednesday afternoon, but they have since left.

The unauthorised encampment was towards the northern end of the Winwick Road site, on land recently converted to car parking outside recently finished new shop units.

Moreover, eight caravans and towing vehicles set up camp on the car park of Marks and Spencer, off Europa Boulevard in Gemini, on Sunday, but they too have also left.

Cheshire Police was called to Morrisons off Wilderspool Causeway on Tuesday afternoon after travellers arrived.

Last week, no less than five sites reported caravans pitching up, including in Birchwood and Stretton.
