CHANGES to Mersey Tunnel tolls including an increase for some drivers have come into place.

The toll price for a single journey through either the Queensway or Kingsway tunnels rose on Monday (April 1).

The changes come following a decision made by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority in December 2023.

The cash/card cost for a class 1 vehicle, motorcycles with sidecar and three-wheeled vehicles, private/light goods vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight, and passenger carrying vehicles with seating capacity for under nine persons, will now cost £2.10, up from £2.

T-flow account holders, an automatic payment system triggered by a vehicle's number plate, with a class 1 vehicle will also pay £2.10.

For class 2 vehicles, private/light goods vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight, with trailer, heavy goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight, with two axles, and passenger carrying vehicles with seating capacity for nine or more persons, with two axles, the price is £4.20, up from £4.

For T-flow class 2 vehicle drivers, the cost will be 3.40.

The cost for class 3 vehicles, heavy goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight, with three axles, and passenger carrying vehicles with seating capacity for nine or more persons, with three axles, is now £6.30, up from £6 and £5.10 for T-flow accounts.

Class 4 vehicles (heavy goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight, with four or more axles), will now cost £8.40, up from £8 with T-flow account holders paying £6.80.
