A BELATED retirement and birthday party was thrown to celebrate an "amazing and wonderful" woman from Wrexham.

A party was held at Deva House day centre in Caia Park on Thursday (March 28) to pay tribute to manager Kath Riley after 20 years of service.

Kath has been the manager at the centre, which specialises in elderly people with dementia, since it first opened 20 years ago.

In addition to her retirement, Kath will be celebrating her 60th birthday on Sunday (March 31), which "deserved a fuss" according to her sister Isabelle.

Isabelle, who also works at Deva House described Kath as "one of the most warm and friendly people you'll ever meet".

She added: "She's done so much for the community in Caia Park, whether that be fundraising for the centre, or her work during Covid.

"She'd often go and do the shopping for some of our clients and deliver it door to door for them.

"Everyone is devastated that she's leaving, staff, clients and the families of the clients too.

"She's just one of those people that would do anything for anyone and once you've met her, she's someone you'd never forget.

"The clients worship her after all the work she's done over the past 20 years and with it being her birthday on the weekend she deserves a fuss."

Kath, who was surprised by friends and family at the party added: "It's not very often I'm speechless, but I am right now. I can't believe they've done this!

"It's been a privilege to work here for 20 years it really has. I was only meant to be here for two! When I signed my contract it was for two years and I'm still here 20 years later.

"No two days are the same, but I've absolutely loved it."
