A MAN who assaulted his mum, stepdad and a police officer after using drugs has been sentenced.

Stuart Fox, of Pepper Street in Chester, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court on Tuesday afternoon for sentence.

The 32-year-old had previously admitted two offences of assault by beating, one of assaulting an emergency worker, one of resisting a police officer and one of possessing cannabis - all of which happened in Shotton.

Prosecutor Justin Espie told the court that at around 8am on January 6, police received a report from the defendant's mother Jean Kennedy that Fox was "extremely intoxicated" through drink and drugs and had been abusing her husband, Lee Kennedy.

Officers attended and spoke to the defendant's partner, who confirmed he was "kicking off" in the house.

Fox was at the top of the stairs shouting and swearing when police entered, and had "a large amount of white substance" under his nostrils.

The police noted a hole in his bedroom door, which he'd punched.

Fox became uncooperative when officers made to cuff him, shouting that he wouldn't be going downstairs "unless he was given a spliff."

He had to be captor sprayed, following which he punched one officer to the face and kicked the shoulder of another.

It was discovered he had a cannabis joint on him.

The two offences of assault by beating had been committed against his mother, whom he accepted he'd pushed, and his stepdad, who he punched multiple times.

A probation officer told the court: "He had a limited recollection of the events and had been using cannabis and cocaine.

"In terms of his assault on the emergency worker, he claims he reacted as a result of being pepper sprayed and he expresses remorse."

Ceri Lewis, defending, told the court her client accepted he had an issue with drugs and since the crimes, he had self-referred to support services.

"He does struggle with his mental health," she continued.

"He said he was struggling at the time and normally takes his anger out by punching objects - but this has escalated to assaulting his stepdad and mum.

"He accepts he was out of control and would welcome a drug rehabilitation requirement so he can get his life back."

Deputy District Judge Lee Davies handed down a 12 month community order with 20 days of rehabilitation activity, a six month drug rehabilitation requirement and a £300 fine.

Fox must pay a £400 contribution towards costs, a £115 victim surcharge and £50 compensation to each of his four victims.
