FAMILIES will be given the chance to try canal boating for free at an event later this month.

Company Anglo Welsh is offering people the chance to give the activity a go on Easter Sunday, March 31.

The event will be held on the Shropshire Union Canal at Bunbury Locks, Bunbury, Tarporley, near Chester.

The taster sessions will be offered from 11am to 4pm, and will include free short trips on skippered narrowboats, and the opportunity to look round holiday-hire boats.

Edd Kirby, Bunbury’s canal boat hire base manager for Anglo Welsh, said: “Travelling at just 4mph through peaceful countryside, past canalside pubs, sleepy villages and into waterside towns and cities, canal boat holidays are often described as ‘the fastest way to slow down’.

“Our free canal boat taster sessions are a great way for people to find out what makes canal boat holidays so special and to see if this sort of holiday would work for them.

“Over the Easter weekend, visitors to Bunbury can also enjoy towpath walks and watching canal boat holiday-makers go through the two locks.”

Anglo Welsh’s open day event is free and no advance booking is required.

The event is family and pet friendly. Trips are offered on a first come, first served basis.
