A WOMAN who played a part in stealing thousands of pounds worth of goods from shops in one day has been fined.

Sandeep Kaur, of Shropshire Way in West Bromwich, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court on Wednesday via video link.

The 27-year-old admitted three offences of theft from shops, all of which took place on November 10 last year and amounted to a monetary value of more than £3,000.

Prosecutor Rhian Jackson told the court Kaur had travelled to north Wales from the West Midlands to commit the offences with others.

The Leader reported last month on the sentencing of 20-year-old Aaron Boardman, of Jacques Way in Wrexham, for his part in the thefts.

Ms Jackson explained the defendants had used wheeled suitcases and a pram to facilitate the theft of the items - including £2,740 worth of clothes from Primark in Broughton and £117 worth of clothes from Wrexham's Primark.

The third theft was of food items worth £225 from Iceland in Wrexham.

All of the stolen items were recovered when police searched Boardman's address.

Debbie Starrs, defending Kaur, explained: "She has no previous convictions has never behaved in this way before.

"Now she finds herself before the court for the first time in her life.

"Ms Kaur volunteers three days a week at a charity shop.

"She knew it was wrong - and isn't for one minute saying she didn't know it was.

"But she did feel she had no alternative but to behave in this way.

"She felt compelled; dragged into it.

"Although she went to mainstream school, she has special needs."

District Judge Gwyn Jones handed down fines of £100 for the theft from Iceland, £100 for the theft from Primark in Wrexham and £200 for the theft from Broughton Primark.

A victim surcharge of £80 and costs of £85 were also ordered by the Judge.

He told her: "I hope this is your first and last venture into theft.

"As from now, any penalties that may be imposed will significantly increase."
